What is Loro co?
Loro is a smart companion robot for wheelchair users. Loro is a plug-and-play intelligent robotic system, controlled by a user-friendly application for people with physical challenges. Loro is designed to provide users with safe navigation and social inclusion, building a community for wheelchair users with smart mapping, social interaction and smart home connectivity.
David Hojah Co-founder & Chief Technology Officer David conducts Loro business and product development while managing the process of innovation and technology. David is leading the R&D team with deep vision and extraordinary technology. Massachusetts is his home, where he studied Mechanical Engineering and Health Management at Harvard University. A wicked awesome birds-lover, David also has a strong background in technology with ten years’ experience in working three successful startups, NASA and hospitals in the Boston area. He is a wizard who is an expert in drones, and robotics, and a passion for healthcare innovation. Loro demonstrates his enthusiasm for empowering people with physical challenges to live independently and making a significant social impact. Among David’s inventions are a medical drone for emergencies, adjustable dental instruments, a convertible wheelchair & a walker, and a medical app tracking health for people with chronic diseases. He also built an autonomous personal transporter for wheelchair users that can convert any manual wheelchair into an electric wheelchair, which won an MIT Media Lab award. Loro is a parrot in Spanish and since his childhood, David has been passionate about parrots. In building Loro, David has developed an assistive robot, that has the ability to see, speak, sense, and interact with the people and things around them in powerful ways just like a parrot your friendly companion on your shoulder. Johae Song Co-founder & Chief Executive Officer Johae Song holds MS from Harvard GSD, studying Design Technology and B.Arch from Cooper Union. As CEO and Creative director of Loro, Johae manages the operations, vision, and culture of Loro. In addition, she designs Loro’s branding and graphs. Furthermore, she designs and develops the functional and experiential dimensions of hardware and software and conducts various forms of product research in order to push our designs even further. Johae has a friend who is an ALS warrior who inspired her to build technology for people who need it most. Before Loro, Johae had 5+ years of inclusive design and product design experience. She is a creator, artist, and designer who seeks out opportunities to broaden her perspective while utilizing work to affect the real, meaningful process. As Johae Song has grown as a creator, she has found herself drawn to a number of fields; she has earned a degree in architecture from the Cooper Union and interior design, pursued fine art and fashion, and explored a breadth of cultures. Vanessa holds a Ph.D. in Biomedical Engineering from MIT. She manages Loro's business strategy, partnerships, and overseas relations. She is managing Loro's pilot program and user testing as she prepares for Loro's product launch. Before Loro, Vanessa had 10+ years of biomedical engineering experience.
