Arch Grants Competition

Following is an overview of our competition.  We are currently not receiving applications but encourage you to check back in autumn, 2013 when our next round launches.  Receive email notification by signing up for our email list.

2012 marked the inaugural year of our business plan competition.  It went pretty well — we awarded $750,000 cash to 15 startups plus pro bono support bringing the total around $1,000,000 awarded to startups in St. Louis!

It went so well that we’re doing it again, awarding 20 grants in 2013 for a grand total of $1,000,000 in grant funding.

Our aim is always to make the process as simple and painless as possible.  Below you’ll find key details about the competition.

◦ $50,000 in grant funding (meaning no equity is exchanged for the funding) disbursed quarterly, over the course of a year

◦ Free legal, accounting, marketing, cloud computing, and mentoring support

◦ Discounted residential and commercial rent

◦ Access to St. Louis’ angel investment network

◦ The opportunity to be a vibrant part of the downtown St. Louis startup community

◦ Recognition as a spokesperson for the entrepreneurial space

◦ A chance for a $100,000 follow-on grant from Arch Grants

Do you have an innovative startup that could office in downtown St. Louis? Great, then you should apply in our next round!

Still debating? A few more details might help you decide. Arch Grants is looking for disruptive ideas – doing something that hasn’t been done before or doing something in a radically new way. We seek to attract entrepreneurs who are already located in St. Louis OR are willing to relocate here. Basing your business in St. Louis is a prerequisite for receiving the grant and all of our current entrepreneurs are investing their time in making the St. Louis startup scene even stronger. Finally, we look for scalable businesses. We want to hear how you’re planning to expand your business to capture national or international sales while remaining headquartered in St. Louis.

Please refer to our FAQ for detailed information on who should apply.

Here’s a look ahead at our general timeline.http://archgrants.org/email-sign-up/

Step 1: Complete our online application.  We want to know what you’re innovating and for whom, what progress you’ve made, how you plan to grow, and how you’re committed to building St. Louis into an innovation hub. The toughest part is being concise and, yes, we limit the length of your answers. Deadline: winter, 2014.

Step 2: Once you find out that you’re a semi-finalist, we’ll send you criteria for an executive summary. That’s right, we keep it brief because less is more (especially when you’ve got businesses to run). If you can’t tell us what we need to know in four pages, maybe we didn’t need to know it. (I know that sounds harsh; honestly, we’re really nice people here at Arch Grants.) We might also throw an interview into this step to get to know you better. Deadline to submit executive summary: late winter/early spring, 2014.

Step 3: If you are one of our lucky finalists, we will invite you to a weekend of events in St. Louis. You will meet with a panel of judges for 10 minutes for Q&A. In addition, you’ll get to see the best of St. Louis. Our current entrepreneurs rave about how exciting and organized this weekend was. Target date: end of April, 2014.

Step 4: We announce our winners in May and invite them to begin our program July 1.
