Chief Executive Officer and Co-Founder
For 30 years, James has sharpened his ability to forecast trends, including non-alcoholic cocktails. When he couldn’t find an alcohol-free alternative to a well-crafted bourbon, he seized the opportunity to create one. James has held strategic marketing & management roles with Bacardi LTD, Brown-Forman, Diageo, Unilever, and his own marketing communication firm, driving premium luxury and lifestyle brands. He has a Bachelor’s Degree in Business Administration from Maryville University St. Louis and a Master’s degree in Political Management from George Washington University.

Sam Newberg
Chef Innovation Officer and Co-Founder
Sam has been a leading culinary and flavor expert in the food ingredient industries for over 30 years. And, after sharing the first sip of their alcohol-free gin and tonic with his partners, he knew he had succeeded in creating something special. Sam has a Masters in biochemistry and chemistry and has held roles in R&D, Product Management, Marketing, Venture Management, and Business Development.
Darnell Smith

When Darnell experienced BARE Zero Proof for the first time, he knew we had captured lightning in a bottle. He is a 20+ year spirits industry veteran with a focus on innovation and commercialization for the likes of Diageo, Pernod-Ricard and Bacardi.
Darnell leads the ALT ALC platform, which includes BARE ZERO Proof and its sister hemp-infused brand MXXN and is focused on unlocking a new era of adult drinks—designed to meet the evolving needs of modern consumers seeking mindful alternatives.
